ZENDAMA · THE OPEN WINDOW
ZENDAMA takes its name from 善玉, the given name of founder Cho Sun-Ok and the affectionate Japanese name “Zendama sensei” used by her students. A personal name becomes a promise: choose well, prepare with care, and share generously.
Our roots are Korean. Our conversation is between Korea and Japan. We introduce Korean food to Japan and are developing a Korean collection of Japanese regional specialities, inspired by the One Village One Product movement.
The Open Window translates the structure of Korean windowcraft into a house of taste. Bulbalgi windows, which can place lattice within an octagonal frame, offer a cultural reference for reading the design. Facing lines stand for an equal conversation between Korea and Japan; the small central diamond evokes the 玉 in 善玉 and Cho Sun-Ok’s discerning eye. Four small squares hold our promise to connect ingredients, makers, places and the table. These meanings are ZENDAMA’s contemporary interpretation, not a claim to reproduce or inherit a particular heritage object or royal seal.
